Golop village is located in Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén county, 45km northeast from Miskolc, in the valley firth of Szerencs stream, beside Somos hill. This tiny village has 700 inhabitants at the entrance of Zemplén mountains waiting for its Visitors with special harmony of silence and calm. Golop belongs to the historical wine area of Tokaj-Hegyalja, which has been the part of World Heritage since 2002.    

Air is crystal clear here, location is great,  wonderful mountain view can be seen from everywhere. It guarantees a relaxing holiday and wide excursion facilities to its Visitors.   

The village was already mentioned in 1255 in IV. Béla’s gift deed.  This time it belonged to the castle of Abaúj, and it had its own church in 1330. The settlement was ruined, burnt in Turkish times, and rebuilt afterwards. Present Golop consists of 2 parts: Upper-Golop, which belonged to Abaúj region till 1875 was united with Down-Golop

 Vay –castles

 Old-Castle

The castle was built in 1590 by Gáspár Golopi the region’s leader, in renaissance style, as mansion residence. It has almost a severe layout. After ownership of  Golopi family it was owned by Ibrányi family, later Vay family.     

 New-Castle

 This separate, long, one-stored building was built by Miklós Vay in 1820, in classical style. 

The 2 castles are surrounded by a nice park, with old yew-, oak and sycamore trees are standing. In the park several curios kinds of  plant and trees can be found.

Churches ( catholic and calvinist ) are worth visiting.

Somos-hill

The former vulcano is 284 m high. You can reach the top of the hill by a comfortable tour, and from there, from Nagy-kő you can have the gorgeous view of Mád-Tállya wine area. 

The name of the hill is likely derived of a plant spread on this hill, it is Cornel. It is a forest fuit, which can be eaten bluntly, or consumed as syrup, wine, or spirits.    

You can find 2 other hills of Zemplén mountains in the neighbourhood, Sátor and Krakó. These hills were also vulcanos. A local legend says if the wooden cross on the top of Sátor hill is fallen out, the vulcano will erupt again.  

Cellar-row

Somos-hill’s and local hills’ slopes have excellent volcanic soil and these are used for grape plantations. Wines made of grapes have such high quality and value as Tokaji wines. Visitors can taste the following types at one of the cellars in Kossuth street.  

furmint,  hárslevelű,  muskotályos, and the famous aszú.

Rákóczi-cellar

It starts from the bottom of Somos-hill and ends in castle of Szerencs. It is cca 15-20 km long, and was used by horse-coaches in old times. It is waiting for excavations.

Our completely  renovated, individual apartman house on Golop’s  mainstreet can be

found  in the beautiful  surroundings  with a scenery  of the mountains of Zemplén :

Sátor hill, Krakó, Patócs and Somos hill.

Our apartman house has the 4 sunflowers degree by Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén Counties 

Countryside  Tourism Association. 

The house has 2 pine-furnitured, very comfortable rooms to sleep in: there is a room with 

4 beds and there is a room with a double bed (and a spare bed).

The guesthouse is always available for only one company at a time; we - the owners - do not

live there either.

The house is welly equipped with baby accessories: high chair, baby bath, baby dresser,

feeding bottles + heating machine and toys! :)

Cable TV is available in each room, but if you would like to do other activities,

 there are board games, books, CD and DVD player.

The house has gas heating but in the bigger room there is a fireplace-heating as well,

which has a very intimate atmosphere.

Our kitchen is fully epuipped ( coffee percolator,  tea-kettle, toaster, microwave 

machine, fridge, cooker).

The bathroom is fitted with WC, shower, hair dryer and iron.

In spring and summer the garden is grassy. There you can use rocking beds,

sunbathing beds, there are also wooden furniture. For children, there are several facilities

to play with: swing, slide and wooden-made sandy place.

The chances to make your meals in a kettle or to barbecue moreover to bake your

 dinner/lunch in our oven are given.

We undertake to heat up the oven to your order in advance.

Such as sausage-sour creamy fried dough, every other roasted meals or cakes which 

baked in the oven can be ordered.

You can taste our wines in our century old wine-vault.

We have a place in the house with an intimate atmosphere for 6-8 persons.

We provide women, men and children bycicles for discover the countryside for 500 HUF/day. 

The cycles are welly fitted with child seats, or if you have a little baby, the little baby-carrier

semitrailer is a great experience to try.

Archery is also available with big and smaller bows. 

In Golop there is a Roll-Service, which means that the breakfast cakes, milk and 

any other goods are serviced to the house in your advanced order.

 
You can fish in the Szerencs stream at the end of the garden.

The apartman house is for rent all over the year.

Reduced prices for children:

Between 10-16 years: 30 % off from the price

Between 3-10 years: 50 % off from the price

Children under 3 are free from fee! They are our guests! :)

Doggies and kitties are very welcome here for 300 HUF/day.

You can also rent bycicles for 500 HUF/day.
